The Columbus based law firm was established in 1967 by Richard V. Patchen and Denis J. Murphy with offices located at 88 East Broad Street. Carlile Patchen and Murphy’s founding partners provided sophisticated legal representation to Central Ohio businesses and individuals, supporting areas related to entity formation, financing, tax planning, estate planning, and other business transactions. In 1978, Hunt Carlile joined CPM, bringing his expertise in corporate litigation and further strengthening the foundation of the steadily growing firm. Through the late 70’s and 80’s, Carlile Patchen & Murphy developed a reputation as a leading business law firm handling complex legal matters for small, mid-sized and large companies in the Columbus region.
Historically, CPM has also boasted a considerable number of committed attorneys who have served the Bar in various leadership positions while also being recognized at the highest levels of professionalism and achievement by legal referral/ranking agencies such as Martindale Hubbell and Best Lawyers. In addition, several CPM attorneys are prolific writers and thought leaders in their areas of legal expertise and have been published in many industry newsletters, journals and articles.
In June of 2015, Carlile Patchen & Murphy merged with the law firm of Campbell Hornbeck Chilcoat & Veatch and leveraged their expansion by opening a second office in Columbus, located at 535 Metro Place South in Dublin, Ohio. The North-Corridor office allows clients in the increasingly growing area of Central, Ohio to conveniently meet with CMP attorneys based on their needs and/or proximity.
