Geoffrey Kunkler joined Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP in 2014 and was elected Partner in 2018. He steers individuals and business owners through all aspects of estate planning and asset protection planning for retirees. Each estate plan is created to meet unique and individual clients’ needs, including charitable and philanthropic planning and special needs planning. He navigates clients through the estate administration process and elder protection whenever necessary. Geoff is active in the community sharing his legal knowledge through educational seminars focused on his expertise.
Geoff received his bachelor’s degree (B.A.) and master’s degree (M.A.) from Case Western Reserve University and his law degree (J.D.) from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. Geoff also earned his Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy™ designation from The American College in 2016.
Geoff is a recognized leader in his area of practice. He works with organizations that proactively further the education of practicing lawyers. These organizations include the Ohio State Bar Association (OSBA) and Columbus Bar Association (CBA). As a member of the CBA, he has served as former Chair of the Estate Planning Committee and is currently a member of the Probate Law Committee. In addition, he is a member of the planning committee for the Probate Law Institute, hosted annually by the CBA.
Geoff is an active member of several organizations in Central Ohio that focus on giving back to professionals and the community. Geoff is a licensed Athlete Agent in Ohio, helping students understand how negotiation can ensure maximum compensation. In addition, he volunteers his time at the Columbus Foundation Professional Advisors, Delaware County Foundation Professional Advisors Group, Catholic Foundation Professional Advisors Group, The Ohio State University Office of Gift Planning Professional Advisors Group, The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine Philanthropic Engagement Council and was previously a founding board member of the Central Ohio Chapter of the National Aging in Place Council.
Geoff was named a “Top Lawyer” by Columbus CEO magazine in 2016, 2018-Present, and named Top Attorneys Rising Stars for 2020 and 2021 by Columbus Monthly. Geoff has been rated AV Preeminent® by Martindale-Hubbell® since 2017 and received their Silver Client Champion Award. He has also been listed as one of Ohio Super Lawyers magazine’s “Rising Stars” since 2018 and listed as Columbus Business First magazine’s Class of 2020 ‘Forty Under 40.’
Geoff is involved with the Delaware County Foundation, as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors, Chair of the Governance Committee, and a member of the Executive and Development Committees. He is also involved in the special needs community at Special Olympics Ohio (SOO).
He volunteers at state-level competitions and is seated as Chair of the Board of Directors. In addition, Geoff was previously the inaugural Chair of the Development Committee for SOO. Geoff supports The Ohio State University as a Buckeye Club and Neil Legacy Society member. Additionally, Geoff is a founding member and the current and inaugural Treasurer for the Central Ohio Business and Wealth Planning Council.
He was born in Wooster, Ohio and now lives in Powell. Geoff enjoys dining out and vacationing with his wife, Lauren, playing with his dog, Teddy, and golfing in his free time. Geoff and Lauren are new parents, welcoming a daughter, Nora, in 2019. As a former personal trainer, Geoff is a bit of a fitness nut and enjoys a variety of physical activities and workouts.
