Dave Swift is an of-counsel at Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP and a Family Wealth & Estate Planning Group member. He practices estate planning, estate and trust administration and also engages in the representation of tax-exempt organizations. Dave represents individuals, business owners and families concerning estate planning, tax planning and business succession planning.
Dave received his J.D. Summa Cum Laude from The Ohio State University Michael E. Moritz College of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif. He was a member and an associate editor of the Ohio State Law Journal. He received his B.A. Magna Cum Laude from Miami University, where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Phi Eta Sigma.
Dave is always growing his knowledge base to better serve his client’s interests. After graduation, he was admitted to practice in Ohio, and as his client’s needs evolved, Dave took the Florida bar exam and was admitted to practice 37 years into his career. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar, and the Florida Bar Association.
In 1996, Dave became a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a Fellow of the Ohio State Bar Foundation. He has also been a Fellow of the Columbus Bar Foundation since 2006.
Dave is dedicated to sharing his extensive knowledge with the community and fellow attorneys and has lectured extensively on trust and estate topics. He served as chair of the 1993 and 1998 Columbus Tax Conferences.
Throughout his career, Dave has served his community in many ways. Dave served on the Board of Directors for The Boys and Girls Clubs of Columbus from 1995-2004 and continues to serve as an Honorary Board Member from 2005-present. He also served as President of the Worthington Youth Boosters from 2001-2002 and served on the Board of Trustees for the Foundation of The Catholic Diocese of Columbus from 2014-2016.
