Ritchey Hollenbaugh concentrates on business litigation, white collar crime, and election issues. He had an extensive general law firm practice before joining Carlile Patchen and Murphy LLP in October 1999, and he frequently is retained as a mediator in a variety of complex cases. Ritchey chairs the Litigation Practice Group at CPM.
During law school, Ritchey worked as an investigator for the Ohio Civil Rights Commission. Following that, he worked in the Columbus City Attorney’s office, primarily in federal civil litigation, handling class action employment litigation involving the police and fire divisions, as well as individual employment matters in federal and state courts. Throughout his career, he was appointed Special Prosecutor in several high-profile matters in Franklin and Athens Counties, as well as representing many high profile clients in both federal and state courts.
PROFESSIONAL ASSOCIATION AND MEMBERSHIPS
Ritchey has served as President of the Ohio State and Columbus Bar Associations and recently served on the American Bar Association Board of Governors. He has served in the ABA House of Delegates for the past 20 years chaired several ABA committees, and currently chairs the Advisory Committee to the ABA’s Election Law Committee. Ritchey has served as a member of both the State and Franklin County Public Defender Commissions, is President of the Franklin County Law Library Resource Board, and recently served as President of the Ohio Legal Assistance Foundation. He was the Treasurer of the Governor’s Committee for Former Governor Dick Celeste, and served as a member of the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Delegation to Ukraine; which assisted in the establishment of their court system in the Post-Soviet era.
Ritchey was awarded The Columbus Bar Association’s Bar Service Medal in 1997 and the 2013 Ohio Bar Medal by the Ohio State Bar Association.
He has been named 2013 “Lawyer of the Year” in the Ethics and Professional Responsibility Law category by Columbus Business First, listed in and listed in “Best Lawyers in America” in commercial law, litigation, and criminal defense (white collar, ethics, and professional responsibility law), and “Super Lawyers Business Edition” (business litigation). Ritchey received his undergraduate degree from Kent State University in 1969 and his law degree from Capital University in 1973.
Ritchey was born and raised in Shelby, Ohio. He enjoys golf, traveling, and spending time with his wife and their four children and eight grandchildren.
