Jane Higgins Marx appointed to the newly created Franklin County Guardianship Service Board

Carlile Patchen & Murphy LLP is Pleased to Announce that Family Wealth and Estate Planning Attorney, Jane Higgins Marx, has been appointed to the newly created Franklin County Guardianship Service Board.

Jane was appointed by the Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board (ADAMH) from a large pool of highly qualified candidates. She was selected as a result of her extensive practice experience and familiarity of guardianship in Franklin County.  This appointment comes on the heels of Jane being named as a Fellow of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, which is one of the legal industry’s highest honors.

“I am honored to accept the ADAMH appointment to the Franklin County Guardianship Service Board.  I look forward to serving the citizens of Franklin County and the opportunity to be a change agent for some of our community’s most vulnerable members.  Immediate changes can be made to improve the guardianship process and increase guardian accountability,”  said Marx.

Franklin County is currently the only county in Ohio with a Probate Court mental health fund, which was created statutorily in the Ohio Revised Code.  The primary purpose of the board is to protect the county’s most vulnerable residents.   The Board is made up of three members:  Jane Higgins Marx, Larry H. James, and William W. Wilkins.  One of their first responsibilities will include the hiring of an executive director for the board.

Jane is a member of the Columbus Bar Association (Estate Planning and Trust Committee and past chair of the Probate Court Committee), The Ohio State Bar Association (member of the Board of Governors of the Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section, member Elder Law Section Committee), the Columbus Foundation Professional Advisors, The Columbus Estate Planning Council, the Society of Financial Service Professionals Columbus Chapter, and The Catholic Foundation Professional Advisors Group. She has practiced law at Carlile Patchen & Murphy since 2000.
